Anna Muzychuk

Ukrainian grandmaster Anna Muzychuk was taught chess at the age of two by her parents, both coaches, and grew up alongside a younger sister, Mariya, who would become Women's World Champion. Anna earned the grandmaster title in 2011 and became the fourth woman in history to cross a FIDE rating of 2600, rising to world No. 2 among women.

She is at her most dangerous at speed: a three-time world champion in the fast formats, taking the Women's World Blitz title in 2014 and again in 2016, and the Women's World Rapid crown in 2016. In classical play she came within a single match of the summit, finishing runner-up for the Women's World Championship in 2017.

She is remembered, too, for a stand made away from the board. Rather than defend her rapid and blitz titles at the 2017 championships in Saudi Arabia, she forfeited both -- unwilling to wear an abaya or be escorted in public -- saying she would not trade her principles for a medal.
