About Chess2Story
Every chess game is already a story — forty moves of ambition, blunder, sacrifice, and escape. Chess2Story is a narrative engine that reads the game the way a novelist would, and retells it.
What it does
Paste a game — a PGN, or a link — and the engine analyses every move, finds the turning points, and renders the same game three ways:
- A story. The pieces become characters in one of our worlds — Arthurian knights, Cossack raiders, space explorers — and the game becomes a chaptered tale with its own prologue and epilogue.
- A comic book. The story is storyboarded and drawn page by page in a chosen comic style, each one built from a real artistic tradition. You can read it on screen or order it as a printed book.
- A coach review. A straight-faced analytical walkthrough: the opening, the critical moments, the lesson to take away. No fiction, just chess.
Stories can also be narrated as audio, and every rendering stays synced to a live board — scroll the tale, and the position follows.
The moves are real
The fiction is honest about being fiction. Underneath every story sits the actual game: real analysis from a real engine, real turning points, the verified score. A famous game keeps its provenance — players, event, date — while the tale it becomes is an avowed transformation, one of many possible renderings of the same moves. That is the whole idea: the game is the score, and each world performs it differently.
The craft
We treat the writing and the drawing as craft, not output. Worlds have voice rules and vocabularies; comic styles are calibrated against museum plates from the traditions they descend from; prose goes through discipline passes that ban the stock phrases machine-written text reaches for. The method — and the art history behind each style — is documented openly in the Lab.
